Why did I  run for the school board in the Capital School District?

I want to help establish and maintain the vision of the Capital School District.  I will be a responsible voice for the community and strive to do the will of our district residents.

What do I see as priorities and/or concerns for the Capital School District?

As an elected officer, I will be a voting member of the team elected to oversee legislation.  The function of the board is to legislate and support as the educators educate our students.  It is important that board members be supportive but stay in “their lane.”   I feel that we can improve our reputation as a district and do a better job of "touting our strengths.”  We need to write our own narrative and not let our value simply be how well we stack up against our neighboring districts.

In general, what is my view on accountability in the schools?

I respect the aim of accountability.  I feel that most educators have the noble goal of doing their best for students.  I also recognize that schools operate in the age of data and high stakes testing.  The most important task is to provide a quality education for all students, appropriate and relevant professional development for educators and the resolve to embrace needed change while refusing to yield to “the next new thing."

What are my priorities for the distribution of state and local monies in the district?

My priority is to work with educators at every level to ensure that funds are used to improve instruction, school climate and quality of life for all of our stakeholders.

What do I see as the role and purpose of the local association (Capital Education and Paraprofessional Association) in the district?

I will provide support for all professionals who service our students.  The CEA should be given the resources to support educational staff in every position at every stage of their career.  As a former member and officer of the CEA, I respect the role of the association.
